What is SWE? Only 18 percent of students graduating with engineering degrees are women. The Society of Women Engineers was established in 1950 to empower women to succeed and advance in the field of engineering, and to be recognized for their life-changing contributions as engineers and leaders. SWE is the driving force that establishes engineering as a highly desirable career for women through an array of exciting development programs, networking opportunities, scholarships, outreach and advocacy activities, and much more. Through these efforts it is our goal to raise the number of women graduating with engineering degrees from 18 to 30 percent by the year 2020. The BYU chapter of the Society of Women Engineers is focused on mentoring, community outreach, leadership development, and social networking. As a member of SWE you will have the opportunity to both receive and provide advice for fellow engineering students, hear from a variety of experienced speakers on topics relevant to your education and career, visit girls in the community providing information and insight into engineering careers, strengthen your leadership skills, and develop friendships with students facing similar challenges and career paths. To join our mailing list or find out more, please send an email to byuswe@gmail.com. We’d love for you to join us!
